happy good friday bloggeronis!
i was thinking this morning about good friday and how strange and painful it would have been for Jesus' family and disciples to hear someone call it a "good" day. however, from our current understanding of what went down that day, and the years leading up to it, we can now celebrate the horrific and violent death of Jesus Christ as the day that a perfect lamb was slain for the very people who brought about his death.
we must remember his life in light of his death. he went to that cross with love in his heart. i can hardly say i would do the same, but today reminds me that i have been saved so that i am able, and even commissioned to do so.
Jesus' death on the cross is the classic example of something good coming about as the result of something that is clearly evil. the crucifixion was not and will never be a "good" thing. it was torturous and oppressive to the point of death. that being said, what comes as the result of the crucifixion is without a doubt good.
it is impossible to see the positive results that can come out of a negative circumstance. but in sharing with the sufferings of Christ we are being made into his image. there is nothing better than that.
