hola bloggers and bloggeritas,
i have already been learning quite a bit this year. i'm excited about where God is leading, while at the same time feeling discouraged about things that have had a grip on me for a long time. another year with the same baggage.
i was listening to a song on pandor this morning by jars of clay called "two hands." it's a really great song that talks about how double-minded we can be. i can definitely relate.
one more thing i have been trying to do this new year is to read the sermon on the mount every day of the year. it's a discipline that i'm excited to enforce in my own life. i'll let you know how it goes.
i was reading "the new testament in modern english" by j.b. phillips this morning, and i love his translation of the beginning of the sermon on the mount. check it out.
"how happy are the humble-minded, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs!
how happy are those who know what sorrow means, for they will be given courage and comfort!
happy are those who are hungry and thirsty for goodness, for they will be fully satisfied!
happy are the merciful, for they will have mercy shown to them!
happy are those who are utterly sincere, or they will see God!
happy are those who make peace, for the will be known as sons of God!
happy are those who have suffered persecution for the cause of goodness, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs!"

I read the Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom and she talked a lot about keeping your hands open so you don't have too tight a grip on anything - good or bad. And that nothing has too tight a grip on you. It's really really hard and requires a step of complete faith and abandon.
The Sermon on the Mount unwraps these things one by one. Hatred. Lust. Personal gain. Judgment. Things of the world. Money. Worry. Your hands are opened by Jesus through each reading. Keep going.
